Good to know

Which exams can I practise for?

For three exams. The basic exam abroad (A1). The civic integration exam (A2). And the Staatsexamen NT2 Programme I (B1). KNM and KNS are included too.

What's the difference between the civic integration exam and the Staatsexamen NT2?

The civic integration exam is level A2. The Staatsexamen NT2 is higher: Programme I is level B1, Programme II is B2. Choose B1 if you want to work or study at vocational, higher vocational or university level.

What is KNM?

KNM stands for Knowledge of Dutch Society. You learn how the Netherlands works. For example about housing, work, healthcare and school. Inburgerify has 8 themes and 78 lessons for this.

What is KNS?

KNS stands for Knowledge of Dutch Society (basic exam). This belongs to the basic exam abroad. It's similar to KNM, but easier. It's level A1.

I don't speak Dutch yet. Can I start?

Yes. You start with the beginner lessons. They take you from zero to level A1. Already know some Dutch? Then you simply skip those lessons.

Is Inburgerify free?

You create a free account. Then you can start learning and practising right away. You don't need a credit card.

Which languages can I learn in?

The app is available in 6 languages: Dutch, English, Spanish, Ukrainian, Arabic and Turkish. Many lessons and questions have a translation. You turn it on with a single button.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Inburgerify works on your phone, tablet and computer. You can practise wherever and whenever you want.

Do I need internet?

You need internet to log in. After that, most lessons also work without internet. Only the AI feedback and the pronunciation check always need a connection.

How long does it take to reach B1?

That's different for everyone. It depends on your level and your time. If you practise a few times a week, most people work towards their exam in a few months to a year.

How do I register for the exam?

You register with DUO, not with Inburgerify. On duo.nl you'll find the dates, costs and rules. Inburgerify helps you practise.

Is my progress saved?

Yes. With a free account, the app saves your progress. You can pick up on your phone right where you left off on your computer.

Everything about civic integration in the Netherlands

Are you going to integrate? Then a lot of questions come up. Which exam do you need to take? Which level do you need? And how do you prepare well? Below we explain it in simple language.

Which civic integration exams are there?

There are three main exams. The basic civic integration exam abroad is taken before you come to the Netherlands. You take it at the embassy or consulate. It's level A1. The civic integration exam is taken in the Netherlands. This exam belongs to your civic integration diploma. It's level A2. The Staatsexamen NT2 is higher. Programme I is level B1. Programme II is level B2. You take this exam if you want to work or study in the Netherlands.

What do A1, A2 and B1 mean?

These are language levels from the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). All of Europe uses these levels. A1: you understand short, simple sentences. You can introduce yourself. A2: you talk about everyday things. For example about work, family and shopping. B1: you manage on your own. You understand a conversation or text about familiar topics. You can give and explain your opinion.

What are KNM and KNS?

KNM is Knowledge of Dutch Society. KNS is Knowledge of Dutch Society (basic exam). With both, you learn how the Netherlands works. Think of housing, work, healthcare, school and rules. KNS belongs to the basic exam abroad. KNM belongs to the civic integration exam and the Staatsexamen NT2. Many people find this easier than the language. Still, you have to learn it well. You can still fail on it.

Why practising matters so much

You don't learn a language just by reading. You learn by doing. Repetition helps. Making mistakes helps too, if you get an explanation right away. That's why Inburgerify follows every lesson right away with an exercise. So you use what you just learned immediately.

How the AI feedback works

Writing and speaking are often the hardest parts. You have to form sentences yourself. For these exercises you get AI feedback. You write or speak an answer. Within seconds you see what goes well. You also see what can be better. Note: in a mock exam you grade yourself on the official exam scale, just like on the real exam. So you don't get AI feedback there.

How the mock exams work

Inburgerify has real mock exams. There are three for every route. They match the real exam in form, time pressure and level. So you know in advance how it feels, where your strengths are and which parts still need attention, with nothing at stake.

The sooner you start, the calmer you'll be. Create a free account. Choose your route. And see within a few minutes where you stand.
