What is the Staatsexamen NT2?
The Staatsexamen NT2 (Dutch as a Second Language) is an official exam run by DUO that shows you have sufficient command of Dutch to study or work in the Netherlands. There are two programmes: Programme I targets level B1 and is aimed at vocational-level and practical work. Programme II is at level B2 and aligns with applied-science and university education. What does level B1 mean?

For work, further study or daily life in the Netherlands, this is often the level required.
What is KNM?
KNM stands for Knowledge of Dutch Society and is often taken alongside the Staatsexamen NT2. This part doesn't test your language skills, but your knowledge of how the Netherlands works: from housing and work to healthcare, education, rules and customs. Many people underestimate this part, even though it's relatively quick to learn with the right preparation.
