What does the civic integration exam cost? All the fees in one place

Short answer: budget around €50 per language component, and €200 for the complete Staatsexamen NT2 (Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking together). The KNM exam costs roughly another €50 on top of that, separately. DUO adjusts these amounts from time to time, so always check the exact, current fee in your Mijn Inburgering account. Here's a breakdown by situation.

Staatsexamen NT2 Programme I (B1)

If you're on the B1-route or the education route, you take the Staatsexamen NT2 Programme I: Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking, each around €50, together around €200. KNM isn't part of that and has its own registration and fee through Mijn Inburgering, also around €50.

Integrating at A2 level

If you're on the Z-route, or still integrating under the older 2013 law, you take the regular DUO exams at A2 level: Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking and KNM, five parts together for around €250, roughly the same per-part price as the Staatsexamen.

Failing only costs the fee for that one part

A part you've already passed stays valid: you never have to redo it. If you fail, a new attempt only costs the fee for that one part.

Free components and borrowing from DUO

• The MAP and PVT are free. Read how MAP and the older ONA work.
• If you're required to integrate, the exam fee can often be deducted directly from your DUO loan.
• If you have to pay yourself and aren't a status holder, you can borrow up to €10,000 from DUO for courses and exams, among other things.

The biggest saving isn't a lower fee, it's needing as few retakes as possible: practising properly before you register is worth it financially too.
